Empty Bowls Throw-a-Thon

Throw-a-Thon
Saturday, September 17th from 6 to 11 p.m.

If you can't feed a hundred people, then feed just one.” - Mother Teresa

We're having a party - so reserve the date! On Saturday, September 17th the pottery studio will be open from 6 to 11 p.m. to make bowls ...lots and lots of bowls to be donated to the Empty Bowls fundraiser in support of the Emergency Food Network.

We'll provide the clay, you bring food or drink to share.

Empty Bowls is an international grassroots effort to fight hunger. The basic premise is simple: Potters and other craftspeople work with the community to create handcrafted bowls. Guests are invited to a simple meal of soup and bread. In exchange for a cash donation, guests are asked to keep a bowl as a reminder of all the empty bowls in the world.

Current and past Throwing Mud Gallery pottery students are invited, along with other local potters. The only criteria is that you must be comfortable either making a bowl on the pottery wheel or hand building without instruction. You may still come by to join the party even if you don't have enough pottery experience yet to make your own bowl, and there are other ways to help:
  • Donate 25# of clay ($9) to be used for the bowls
  • Help wax and glaze the bowls after they've been bisqued
  • Attend the Empty Bowls fundraiser on November 19th from 1-4 pm at Charles Wright Academy
If you can't make it on the 17th, you can also help by making bowls to donate and dropping them off here. We're also going to need help with a “Trim-a-Thon” tentatively on Wednesday, September 21st for anyone who can come in and help trim the bowls. We are tentatively planning to wax and glaze on Wednesday, October 5th.

Please RSVP to Eileen and let us know how you'd like to help.
